New in: „Bauen für die Massenkultur – Stadt- und Kongresshallen der 1960er und 1970er Jahre“, edited by Olaf Gisbertz and published by @jovis_verlag in 2015. The book offers a broad insight into the cultural and societal context as well as the architectural quality of congress/municipal halls of the 1960s and 1970s. Different authors shed light on remarkable examples of this building typology, the genesis of it and the challenges posed by these large-scale buildings today. Especially the latter is a pressing problem that preservationists and historians face right now since many of these buildings are threatened with demolition. An important book, especially in view of the pending demolition of the Cultural Center in Mattersburg, Austria, that is also addressed in the book.
